Around Mid-City for March 17, 2016

Registration is underway for the Hat Run, a benefit for the Laura Savoy Olinde Foundation.

Online registration continues for $30 per entry until April 13. Race day registration goes to $35. Registration for those 15 years old and younger is $15. Registration includes entry into the 5K run or 1-mile run/walk, 2016 branded event T-shirt, refreshments, entertainment and a free skin cancer screening by local dermatologists.

The run, which promotes skin cancer awareness, is April 16 at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center. Interested volunteers can email Volunteer Coordinator Beth Dunn at volunteer@lsofoundation.org.

Mid City Art Thaw planned

Six local businesses are joining together to celebrate the Mid City Merchants’ sixth annual Mid City Art Thaw, to be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

All six businesses are on Jefferson Highway between Government Street and Goodwood Avenue.

Celebrating the end of winter will be Brew Ha Ha!, 711 Jefferson Highway, Suite 2A; Elizabethan Gallery, 680 Jefferson Highway; Monjunis Italian Café & Grocery, 711 Jefferson Highway, Suite 4A; Reginelli’s Pizzeria, 684 Jefferson Highway; Sabai Jewelry Gallery, 711 Jefferson Highway, Suite 9; and Shavarsh K Jewelry Design Shop, 711 Jefferson Highway, Suite 2B.

Each business will feature artists painting on site, music and food.

BREC plans Art in the Park

BREC’s Baton Rouge Gallery will hold its annual Art in the Park event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 9 at City-Brooks Community Park, 1515 Dalrymple Drive. Admission is free and features local painters and performers.

An annual family-friendly community event, Art in the Park highlights the visual and performing arts in Baton Rouge set in the serene City-Brooks Community Park. The event features musical, theatrical and spoken word performances and a variety of children’s art activities, including a sidewalk chalk drawing contest.
